First Federal's Annual Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament Generates $17,600 for Local Charities

First Federal Bank’s 5^th Annual Magic Valley Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament of Champions was held on June 1, at the Twin Falls Downtown Commons. A total of 64 area businesses had their champions attempt to Ro-Sham-Bo their way to victory. At stake was a total of $17,600 for charities. To participate in the tournament, each business paid an entry fee which was then pooled to create 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th places, as well as a Best Introduction category. All prize money went to the winners’ charities of choice. The 1^st place winner received $10,000, 2^nd place captured $4,000, 3^rd place won $2,000, 4^th place secured $1,000, and the Best Introduction was awarded $600. Prior to the Tournament of Champions, participating businesses held their own internal rock, paper, scissors tournaments to determine their champion and designee in the larger Tournament.

Established in 2018, the Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament is a fun-filled event that has become a staple in the Magic Valley. “It’s great to see all the businesses come together and support important non-profit work in the area,” stated Jason A. Meyerhoeffer, President and CEO of First Federal Bank. “First Federal Bank is proud to facilitate this philanthropic effort and help lead community impact.”

In addition to the single elimination, best of 3, Ro-Sham-Bo between participants, each competitor chose a walkup song and dressed up to entertain the crowd. Andra Johnson from Harris CPAs was the 1^st place winner and said, “I still can’t believe that I won! Not a bad gig to make $10,000 in three hours for a good cause.” Johnson was playing for Broken Hearts Rescue. She added, “I’m thrilled to know this gives the organization the ability to change the lives and outcomes for many small pets.” Tyler Skidmore, from 208 Real Estate, won Best Introduction for his rendition of Dolly Parton’s famous song “9 to 5,” earning $600 for Rising Stars Therapeutic Riding Center. Skidmore mentioned, “The event was so much fun, seeing the community come together to help raise money for charity and have a good time doing it.”

The Treasure Valley Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament of Champions is slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, at the Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park Bandshell in Meridian.
