There’s something special about packing up, heading out on the open road, and making memories along the way. Whether it’s a quick weekend trip to the mountains or a week-long family reunion at the campground, travel trailers and RVs give families the opportunity to slow down, explore, and spend quality time together.
For Mike Worthington, camping has always been about family and creating experiences that last a lifetime.
“As our family grew, we needed more space,” Mike shared. “We used to tent camp, but now with four boys, we wanted something with more room and a restroom. Someday we’d love to get a motorhome and travel even more.”
For now, many of their favorite adventures stay close to home in Idaho. From weekends at Three Island Crossing State Park to trips through Ketchum and Pine, camping has become a tradition for the Worthington family, especially during large family reunion camping trips.
When it comes to buying a travel trailer, Mike says it’s important to think about how you truly plan to use it. Family size, travel goals, and camping style all play a role in finding the right fit. Some families may want something simple for weekend trips, while others are looking for more space and comfort for longer adventures.
He also encourages buyers to think long-term before making the investment.
“The biggest piece of advice I have for people thinking about buying a camper is to make an effort to use it and make it a priority,” Mike said. “Before you buy it, make sure you really are going to use it because it is an investment.”
Financing a travel trailer is often similar to financing a vehicle, though recreational loans may offer longer terms depending on the purchase.
For the Worthington family, purchasing their camper happened almost unexpectedly.
“When we bought our travel trailer, we actually just went at the end of camping season to look,” Mike said. “We saw one we liked, called our personal banker, and asked, ‘Do you think we can do this?’ It was a done deal from there.”
Shopping toward the end of camping season can sometimes provide buyers with more options and potential savings, making it a great time to start exploring.
For Mike, some of the best memories come from simply being together outdoors. One memory that still stands out is choosing a camping trip with his grandparents over a trip to Disney as a child.
“It’s a great way to get outdoors, be with family, and get away from the hustle and bustle,” he shared.
At the end of the day, buying a travel trailer or RV is about more than financing—it’s about creating opportunities for adventure, connection, and memories that last for generations.
