Celebrating Community Banking Month: The First Fed Difference

April is Community Banking Month, a time to recognize the important role community banks play in strengthening local economies, supporting small businesses, and helping families thrive. Community banks also make a meaningful impact by providing personalized service, local decision-making, and reinvesting back into the communities they serve .

At First Federal, this month holds an even deeper meaning. We are proud to be Idaho’s Community Bank of Choice and the state’s only mutual bank, a difference that truly sets us apart.

So, what does it mean to be a mutual bank? Simply put, we are owned by our depositors not shareholders or outside investors. Every decision we make is centered around the people and the communities we serve. There are no competing interests or external pressures, just a commitment to enhancing the financial well-being of our customers. This mission and our ability to reinvest into better products, enhanced services, and strengthening local communities is what we refer to as the First Fed Difference.

Founded in 1915 in Twin Falls as a building and loan association, First Federal was established to help address a housing shortage in the Magic Valley. More than 110 years later, that same purpose – to build communities – still  drives us. From helping homebuyers achieve their dreams to supporting businesses and their success as well as improving personal finances we remain committed to driving change and enhancing lives.

In 2025, First Federal’s impact was felt across the state.

Originated $283 million in business loans

Financed more than 250 homes

Supported 118 first-time homebuyers.

Over 2,300 customers saved nearly $350,000 using the unique Round-Up feature

These aren’t just numbers, they represent real people, real goals, and real progress.

Our commitment goes beyond banking. We proudly invest in our communities through partnerships with schools, nonprofits and other civic organizations that make the places we call home special. Last year, First Fed contributed over $750,000 through donations, sponsorships, and grants to local initiatives and groups that enrich the lives of thousands of Idahoans.

Because we are a mutual bank, we are uniquely positioned to walk alongside our customers through each stage of life. Whether it’s opening a first savings account, buying a home, starting a business, or planning for retirement, our team is here to provide guidance, support, and personalized solutions every step of the way.

At First Federal, banking is more than transactions—it’s relationships. It’s showing up, reinvesting locally, and helping our neighbors succeed.

This Community Banking Month, we celebrate not just what we do but who we do it for. Because at First Federal, this is your bank.
