A Career Built on Knowing the People Behind the Numbers

Ron Rasmussen didn’t walk into his first banking interview thinking he’d stay for three decades. He showed up because a friend’s father, who served on First Fed’s board, made an introduction. What happened next surprised him. “My boss asked me directly about myself,” Ron recalls. “I could tell that he genuinely cared about me.”
Being seen by the person across the table before he’d done a day’s work convinced Ron this was the place he wanted to be. Thirty-two years later, he’s still here.
Ron is now the Regional Commercial Lending Manager for Magic Valley, overseeing a team of commercial loan officers while also managing his own portfolio of business clients. It’s a role that suits someone who has spent his entire career in this region, a Twin Falls native who grew up knowing the people, the land and the rhythm of the communities First Fed serves.
Finding Solutions for Real People
Ask Ron what his team does and he’ll simply tell you: “We spend a lot of time with our customers trying to find out what they truly need. Part of our team culture is to find solutions to best meet their business needs.”
That’s not a catchphrase or sales pitch. It’s how Ron describes the daily work of commercial lending, a world where no two clients are the same and understanding a business deeply is the only way to help it grow. He divides his time between his own customers and supporting his team’s, stepping in when experience and local knowledge make the difference.
In the Magic Valley, Ron says the work starts the same way every time: face-to-face conversations and a clear picture of what a business needs. That means meeting regularly, digging into the financials, and asking the questions that help a banker see what is really happening, not just on a spreadsheet, but in the day-to-day reality of running a company.
One of the most rewarding parts of that work, he says, is helping business owners bring a dream to life. “Our customers are very involved with their businesses, this is their passion. We want to work with them to help fulfill that.”
Local Decisions, Local Trust
For Ron, the case for banking with a community institution comes down to something simple: the people approving your loan are your neighbors. “The decisions are made locally,” he says. “They know that the people they’re going to be working with actually live in the community.”
That matters in the Magic Valley, where Ron says the people here are what keep him rooted. “I know the people. I’ve grown up here and they’re genuine, they’re kind. They know why they’re here, and even the people who have moved here recently know that it’s special.”
Ron’s connection to this region extends beyond the bank. He’s an active member of the Twin Falls Kiwanis Club and is involved through his church, community ties that parallel First Fed’s own investment in the region through the First Federal Foundation.
When asked what makes him proud to work at First Fed after more than three decades, Ron lands on leadership and mission. “Our leaders care about our community, and they also care about their employees.” It’s the same thing he felt in that very first interview, and why he’s still here more than three decades later.
